Mark's 2008 Books Read

Last year there was a challenge on LibriVox to read a book a week for the year (I managed 47). I've decided to keep up the public record as a spur to keep reading. (I've kept a private record since about 1990.)

Jan 14 - The Master of the World (Verne) - solo for LV
Jan 15 - Ring (Baxter) sci-fi!
Jan 17 - Saucer (Coonts) a surprisingly good yarn about a flying saucer
Jan 21 - Saucer - The Conquest (Coonts) the sequel, not quite as good
Feb 07 - The Lone Star Ranger (Grey) for LV
Feb 19 - The Devil's Adjutant (Reynolds) about J. Peiper at the Battle of the Bulge
Feb 26 - In the Company of Others (Czernada) Really enjoyed this!
Mar 04 - Talon of the Silver Hawk (Feist) 1st of a trilogy
Mar 06 - King of Foxes (Feist) 2nd
Mar 08 - Exile's Return (Feist) final
Mar 13 - Sense and Sensibility (Austen) for LV
Mar 16 - The Savage Damsel and the Dwarf (Morris) youth fiction, and very good
Mar 22 - Panzergrenadier Divisions 1939-45 (Bishop) great illustrations
Mar 25 - To the Last Salute (Trapp) WWI memoir of U-Boat service
Mar 31 - Atlantic Escorts (Brown) British sloops and corvettes in the Battle for the Atlantic
Apr 4 - The Crystal Shard (Salvatore) first of a trilogy
Apr 13 - Streams of Silver (salvatore) second
Apr 14 - Around the World in 80 Days (Verne) for LV
Apr 21 - The Halfling's Gem (Salvatore) final book in trilogy
May 1 - Captains Courageous (Kipling) for LV
May 10 - Grey Fox (Davis) a touching sympathetic biography of R.E. Lee's war years
May 13 - The Memoirs of Colonel John S. Mosby (Mosby) a re-read, for LV
May 16 - The Point of Honor (Conrad) for LV... third this month! Woohoo!
May 26 - Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (McGuire) not the Cinderella story I knew!
May 28 - The Partner (Gresham)
Jun 4 - Japanese Destroyer Captain (Hara)
Jun 9 -Luck in the Shadows (Flewelling) first of a trilogy
Jun 12 - Stalking Darkness (Flewelling) second
Jun 19 - This Side of Paradise (Fitzgerald) for LV
Jun 25 - Traitor's Moon (Flewelling) final in trilogy
Jul 2 - The Outline of Science, Vol. 1 (Thomson) for LV. Old, but well-written
Jul 21 - Naval Firepower (Friedman) High-powered & detailed, for the specialist.
Jul 25 - Allied Landing Craft of WWII (USN)
Jul 29 - Kidnapped (R.L. Stevenson) For LV. Quite an enjoyable read!
Jul 31 - Master of Whitestorm (Wurts)
Aug 19 - Green Mansions - A Romance of the Tropical Forest (Hudson) For LV.
Aug 23 - The Essex Aircraft Carriers (Faltum)
Aug 31 - Tom Swift and his War Tank (Appleton) For LV.
Sep 14 - Berserker Man (Saberhagen) Really enjoyable!
Oct 7 - Berserker Death (Saberhagen) Not quite as good as the first
Oct 13 - The Pathfinder (Cooper) For LV. A classic I missed in school
Oct 26 - Shaman's Crossing (Hobb) First in a trilogy
Nov 14 - Forest Mage (Hobb) weird
Nov 30 - Renegade's Magic (Hobb) weirder
Dec 3 - The Poison Belt (Doyle) For LV. Good scifi for early 1900's!
Dec 7 - Great Expectations (Dickens) For LV. Another classic
Dec 22 - Over the Top (Empey) For LV. A major WWI hit. Recommended.
Dec 26 - Voyage of the Jerle Shannara - Ilse Witch (Brooks) 1st of trilogy

TOTAL FOR 2008 = 48 !! Seventeen were solo reads for LibriVox.
